About
the Company
Hugh
and Marjorie Goldie founded Tobermory Fish Farm in 1971. These were early
days for fish farming on the West coast of Scotland and in true pioneering
tradition. Hugh and Marjorie chose the perfect place: Tobermory, the capital
of the Island of Mull, which takes its name from the ancient Tobar Mhoire
- the well of Mary
Tobermory
Fish Farm is situated in the south of Tobermory bay. At over a mile from
the nearest public road, the Farm is split between two sites. Tobermory
trout are grown in fresh water in Aros Loch. Set among stunning wild rhodedendrons
and strewn with lilies, Aros Loch is part of the protected Aros parklands.
Through years of careful management, Tobermory trout have attained an
unsurpassed quality.
A short
walk from the trout farm takes you to the Old Mill. The pure highland
water that once turned the waterwheel now nurtures a few thousand small trout for the table market. To the
front of the hatchery, a stone pier allows access to the southern corner
of Tobermory Bay where we grow our mussels.
On two sides the Mussel Farm lies beneath tumbling waterfalls. This well oxygenated, slightly brackish water coupled with a spacious environment produces mussels second to none. Tobermory Fish Company has no programme of chemical treatment: we believe in the natural product. |
